NEW Mandatory Organics Recycling Program

Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) requires all California cities to implement solid waste and organic recycling programs beginning on January 1, 2022 in an effort to reduce waste and combat climate change caused by the release of methane gases from landfills. On November 15, 2021 the Lawndale City Council adopted Ordinances to comply with the requirements of SB 1383.

Beginning on January 1, 2022 businesses and multi-family complexes of five units or more are required to recycle all organic waste.  If you own a business or multi-family complex, please call Republic Services at 1-800-299-4898 to request an organics cart at no additional charge and establish collection services.

For single-family residents, organic waste will be collected in the green curbside cart.  Organic waste includes food such as meat, bones, dairy fruit and vegetable scraps, food soiled paper such as napkins and paper towels, and all yard clippings. Simply place the food waste either loose, or in a brown paper bag, into the green cart.

Please feel free to call the Public Works Department if you have any questions at 310-973-3273.
