A panel of historical society members will select the plaque recipients in May of each year. To be considered for the May selection, submit your application no later than April 1st. Applications not selected during the year in which they are submitted may remain on file for future consideration.
Eligibility Criteria
Award of a Historic Preservation Plaque recognizes and honors the careful preservation of older homes and other buildings. Eligibility for a plaque is based on the following criteria:
1. Age of Building
The building must be 50 years or older.
2. Architectural Condition
The building's exterior has been preserved, maintained, or rehabilitated (or sensitively enlarged) in accordance with its original architectural style and detailing. The building must be in good condition.
3. Historic and/or Architectural Significance
Preference will be given to buildings that were either owned by a prominent person or family or are historically significant to the community, as well as those that are good examples of one or more architectural styles.
Award Presentations
The Lawndale Historical Society and the Lawndale City Council will present the plaques at a City Council meeting held in the City Hall council chamber. A limited number of plaques will be awarded each year, based on qualified and approved applications.
