The City Allows Residents to Create Parking Districts

In accordance with Chapter 10.07 of the Lawndale Municipal Code, Lawndale residents may form parking districts to allow only residents with permits to park on the street. The three types of parking districts are:

  • Preferential Parking Permit Districts – During certain hours, only neighborhood residents may park on the street and visitors to a nearby facility (like a shopping center) may not park on the street.
  • Overnight Parking Permit Districts – only residents of the neighborhood may park on the street between 2:00 and 6:00 in the morning.
  • Driveway Parking Permit District – residents may park in front of their own private driveway as long as there is only one house on the lot.

Here are some of the requirements for an application for a parking district:

  • The size of a parking district must be at least 3,600 contiguous linear feet, including both sides of the street and whole blocks, from intersection to intersection
  • At least two-thirds (2/3) of the households to be included in the proposed district must sign a petition to form a district.
  • Applicants must submit a certified list of all names and addresses of owners of real property as shown on the county's current equalized assessment roll, and a certified list of all addresses within the proposed district and within five hundred feet from the exterior boundaries of the proposed parking permit district.
  • Applicants must pay certain fees

This is only some of the information you will need to create your own parking permit district. For more information, please contact the Public Works Department at (310) 973-3260.
