SUBJECT: PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT

On Friday, September 5th, at 4:00PM, multiple subjects were contacted in the 4000 block of Rosecrans Avenue by Deputies Bell and Judge, a Lennox Gang unit. All three had the smell of burnt marijuana emitting from themselves. Deputy Judge then retrieved a large baggie of marijuana from one of the subjects. At this point the subject pushed Deputy Judge away and ran from the location. Deputy Judge immediately initiated a containment of the area via her radio. School Resource Deputy Joe Medina spotted the subject two blocks away and detained him. The subject was subsequently placed under arrest possession of marijuana for sales.

On Saturday, September 6th, at 5:30PM, a hit and run accident occurred at Redondo Beach Boulevard and Prairie Avenue. Deputy Garland Miller contacted one of the parties who stated after her vehicle had been struck, the other party fled the scene. Deputy Miller found the other vehicle in Torrance, about two blocks away, with the driver attempting to hide from the police. It was determined the driver had also stolen the vehicle. The driver was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle, bring an unlicensed driver and hit and run.

On Monday, September 8th, around 4:00PM, Detective Andy Ruiz observed two males who appeared to be loitering down the street from Leuzinger High School. Detective Ruiz immediately recognized one male from prior contacts as a self admitted gang member. As Detective Ruiz drove closer, both subjects started walk away into a carport to avoid contact. Upon contacting one of the males, he noticed the subject was holding a cell phone. Due to recent robberies of cell phones in the area, he inspected the phone. It was determined the cell phone was stolen. The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property.

On Friday, September 12th, at 6:30PM Deputies Rouzan and Mason attended a Neighborhood Watch meeting at the Community Services Annex Building which was very well attended.
